CANDY DAY JUNE 28, 2008

We had a very successful Candy Day on June 28th at Walmart. Lion Ben Burroughs was there at the start, but had to leave when he got a call his uncle had passed away in San Antonio at 100 years old. Those that remained are named in Lion Don's newsletter below.

Lion President Dalphon Thompson is ready for visitors at 9 AM at the main entrance.

Lions Nick & Arleen Lopano set up another table at the Walmart food entrance.

Our club had a great time at the Blue Crab Festival on May 17th and 18th. We hope you did as well.

The Little River Lions Club particpated in the NMB St. Patrick's parade on March 15th with a large crowd and fabulous weather. As usual, we passed out candy to the children and the senior citizens along the parade route. Calhoun, the Model A, got the regular response to Lion John and wife Helen and the children loved the horn sound. We had a fabulous time!

Lion John Barnhardt and his wife Helen drove the Model A with their great hats.

The Little River Lions continue to pray for our men and women in the service and by displaying our flags.

Our club had our installation of new officers at Haley's Restaurant in Calabash on June 17th. Lion Brian P'Poole inducted our officers for 2008-09 and our newest member. We had a great meal and everyone had an enjoyable time. Congratulations to all.

Our sincere thanks to Lion Brian P'Poole for performing our induction ceremony.

Lion Brian P'Poole inducts our newest member, Lion Bob Weldon. Congratulations Lion Bob and welcome to our club.

OUR MONTHLY NEWSLETTER

AUGUST 2008- Issue # 51 - Editor: Lion Don Furcillo

OUR MEETING AUGUST 5TH:

We had 21 members show up on this hot August day. The main reason was that we were to to decide on whether we would change our meeting location. After a pro and con discussion it was decided we would remain at Best Pancake house where we have been for over 20 years. The food is good, we have the whole restaurant to ourselves and the owner does a great job with our pancake supper every year. The final vote was unanimous.
Bobbie Morgan gave an excellent presentation on she and her husband's hearing center on 28th Avenue in Myrtle Beach. Bobiie will give Lions a free hearing exam and exlained the options for hearing aids and price points. She shortened her usual presentation as she knew we had a long business meeting to attend to. Thank you Bobbie for all you offered.

Condolences to Lion Don Fucillo on the passing of his beloved dog Maggie. Though he is blessed to have found a Prince Charles spanial to take her place, Maggie still holds a very large place in his heart.

AUGUST BIRTHDAY LIONS

Not a single member has an August birthday. Perhaps a wife does?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIONS

Let's think about another Candy Day in the fall, it seems to be an excellent way to raise funds that is not too labor intensive.

We still have not made plans to hold a meeting at Summit Place so Lion Bishop can attend.

Do we want to do anything special at this year's Shrimp & Jazz Festival? It appears NMB Lions will be competing with some sort of food booth. Can we come up with anything we are good at? Brooms will be more expensive given the cost of shipping(gasoline).

Have great month, and try to stay cool. Until next time, God bless you all and our troops.
